Type Locality and Naming

SW Algeria. Grés = sandstone. Named after the type location of Garet Dehb SSW of Jebel Moumina (Wendt et al., 2008).

Synonym: Grès de Garet Dehb Fm, Garet Dehb Sandstone Fm, Garet Dehb Fm

Lithology and Thickness

The Gres de Garet Dehb attains a thickness of over 300 m and show typical fluvial channels. They consist of mostly thin-bedded sandstones with cross-lamination and more easily erodible shale and siltstone intercalations. The sandstones are distinguished by current- and oscillation-ripples, bioturbation, and common bioclastic intercalations (Wendt et al., 2008).

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It rests conformably on the Upper Tirechoumine Fm.

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the Calcaires du Djebel Berga Fm.
